Eligibility requirements

  • Permanent Resident status with no unfulfilled PR conditions
  • Physical presence in Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) within the last 5 years — officers can now credit up to 180 days of absence for documented circumstances beyond your control (medical emergency, family crisis, natural disaster)
  • Personal income tax filed for at least 3 of the 5 preceding years
  • Adequate language proficiency in English or French (CLB 4+) — applicants aged 18-54
  • Pass the citizenship knowledge test (Discover Canada) — applicants aged 18-54
  • Not subject to a removal order or criminal prohibition
