Express Entry

Canada's flagship system for skilled workers — apply for permanent residency through FSW, CEC, or FST under one optimized CRS profile.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry manages applications under the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades programs. Candidates submit a profile to a federal pool and are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The highest-scoring candidates receive Invitations to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency in regular IRCC draws. Typical end-to-end timeline is 6-12 months from profile creation to landing — when the CRS strategy is right.

CEC, or one of 2026's category draws — or both?

Most invitations now come from targeted category draws, not the general pool. Answer a short set of questions and see which of the active 2026 pathways your profile actually lines up with, before you build a CRS strategy around the wrong one.

How much skilled work experience do you have in the last 3 years, in any country?

What this tool actually checks

  • Whether your work experience and its skill level (TEER) point to the Canadian Experience Class
  • Whether your Canadian work experience is recent and sufficient (12 months minimum in 2026) for CEC or a Canadian-experience category
  • Which of the active 2026 category-based draws your occupation or French ability might align with
  • Whether more than one pathway could realistically apply to your profile at once

Category-based draws matter more than the general pool

Most invitations today come from targeted category-based draws rather than general, highest-CRS-first rounds — with cutoffs that can sit dramatically lower than a general draw for the right profile. Canada's active 2026 categories are French-language proficiency, Healthcare and social services, STEM, Trade occupations, Education, Transport, Physicians, Senior managers, Researchers, and Skilled military recruits (Agriculture and agri-food was retired for 2026). Qualifying for a category now generally requires at least 12 months of recent, sufficient work experience in that occupation group — up from 6 months in 2025 — and the exact requirement varies by category, so this is genuinely worth an RCIC review rather than relying on a CRS calculator alone.
