How NTNP works — a genuine 2026 overhaul
The Northwest Territories replaced first-come-first-served intake for its Employer-Driven stream (Skilled Worker, Entry-Level/Semi-Skilled, and NWT Express Entry) with a real Expression of Interest points grid, maximum 845, in 2026: Skills and Experience (age, education, language, work experience), Ties and Connections to the NWT (current NWT employment, a trades job offer, past NWT work history), and Likelihood of Settling (family in the NWT, NWT post-secondary study). In the first draw ever run, on March 25, 2026, 65 of 295 candidates in the pool were invited, with scores ranging 417–597. Draws have continued through the year — June 25 (79 invited from 300, scoring 386–590) and an unscheduled August 26 round (104 invited from 260, scoring 346–555) after the NWT received 103 additional nomination spaces — giving a real, if moving, sense of what's competitive even with no fixed published minimum. Business stream figures are published: equity investment of $200,000 within Yellowknife or $100,000 outside it, personal net worth of $500,000 within Yellowknife or $250,000 outside it, and at least one-third ownership (unless personal equity reaches $1,000,000). The Francophone and Business streams sit outside the new points system; Francophone remains first-come-first-served and open to all NOC TEER categories.
